VI. BUSINESS
A. History of Firewise Program
Ali True, The Firewise Program is a National program. There are 9 Firewise
Communities in Oregon, most are located in Central Oregon. Oak Knoll Meadows is
the first community in Ashland, south of where the fire was last year. City of Ashland
is a little more difficult to make Firewise because of many non-associated residents in
urban environment. Trying to create social networks that Firewise Community
program depends on is not realistic, but providing opportunities for Firewise events
such as annual clean-up or disposal day is a realistic Firewise goal for City. The
program is a partnership with the Oregon Department of Forestry, represented by
Brian Ballou.
B. Orientation and vision to Firewise Communities in Ashland
A. Vision: Firewise day or event to encourage community results. Starting with
the HOA's that we have, start expanding to immediate neighbors, provide
regular events/services on an annual basis. Firewise day for your
neighborhood, ways to get the word out have Firewise educational events,
fuel removal education, prevention and awareness. About saving homes and
protecting your investment.
B. One idea is the five step recognition program, working towards recognition
on a city-wide scale.
1. Form a Firewise board or commission helping to move Ashland towards
recognition
