I. CALL TO ORDER
II.INTRODUCTIONS Ron Parker,Mike Morris, Kathy Kane, Ali True, Matt Warshawsky, Pete Norvell,Kelly Eaton
and Kimberley Summers.
III.APPROVAL OF MINUTES: September 19th, 2012 meeting approved
IV. PUBLIC FORUM
V.ADJUSTMENTS TO THE AGENDA Due to a schedule conflict,Ron Bolstad, has resigned.
VI.BUSINESS
A. Discussion of Commission quorum and excused absence policy for City Administrator feedback. Dave Kanner
had sent an e-mail to Ron Parker on the above items; this was discussed and Ali True will respond to his questions
with these responses: phone-in method for absent participation is ok,no changes recommended to absence policy,
and ok with quorum and number of commissioners.
B. Proposal for interactive communication between Firewise Communities in Ashland
a. Pete Norvell wrote up a communication proposal for Firewise groups;please review the hand out,
discussion to follow. Think about the questions and bring your questions to the next Firewise meeting in
December we would need to get your ideas and questions completed for the invitations to be done by
January, then in February invite Firewise Board members from recognized communities to meeting.
C. Firewise Communities, CERT and Map Your Neighborhood(MYN), Fire Adapted Communities (FAC)
discussion
a. Local Forest Service, ODF, and Nature Conservancy representatives attended local FAC meeting held last
month. Past achievements and future opportunities for more cohesive protection were discussed. Updates
on future meetings and discussions will be provided here.
b. The CERT program, Community Emergency Response Team can be utilized in a wildfire or large scale
disaster. Terri Eubanks and Ali True have been working on a Map Your Firewise Neighborhood,
(MYFN)recognition program that will combined Map Your Neighborhood and Firewise Communities.
As we renew current Firewise communities we will present the Map Your Firewise Neighborhood
program. We will have total of(12)Firewise neighborhoods by the end of 2012.
D. Commission goal setting discussion and plans for next meeting
a. December/January meeting agenda will be goal setting for the Firewise Commission,hand outs provided
of examples of a three year goal setting. It was discussed having one year goal timeline for our objectives.
E. New publication: Fire Resistant Privacy Screening Shrubs and Trees for Southwest Oregon booklet(OSU
Extension) distributed
VII. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS
Reminder a-mails would be helpful to be sent out earlier to the commissioners for review before the next
meeting. Please send your ideas for interactive communications between neighborhood Firewise groups and
Firewise Commission to Ali True.We will be working on goals and ideas at the next two meetings please have an
idea of what objectives and timelines you have for our Firewise goal setting.
VIII.REVIEW AND SET COMMISSION CALENDAR/NEXT MEETING
A. Next meetings December 19th, 2012 and January 16,2013 (No November meeting due to holiday)
