RE: Supplemental Parking Information
The following supplemental parking information is provided to (a) inform the Committee on general parking costs and (b) give perspective on the minimum space requirements for a functional parking
structure.
2016 Cost Estimates for Parking Alternatives:
• Structured Underground $35,000 - $45,000 per stall
• Structured Above Ground $20,000 - $25,000 per stall
• Surface Lot $ 5,000 - $ 7,000 per stall
Estimates provided in the 2016 City of Ashland Downtown Parking Management Strategy Report by Rick Williams Consulting: http://www.ashland.or.us/SIB/files/050217-Downtown_Parking_Management_Strategy.pdf
General Remarks of Parking: (1) How many surface stalls could fit in a given area?
Number of surface stalls can be generally estimated by dividing surface area of the lot, in
square feet, by 350 square feet per stall. General rule of thumb provided to staff by Rick
Williams Consulting in electronic communication dated July 13, 2017.
(2) Could a parking structure fit in a given area?
In general, a parking structure provides a logical layout for circulation and parking when it
has, at a minimum, dimensions of 100 by of 200 feet*. This generalization was provided by
Steve Ennis (Architect) in a parking structure feasibility study conducted for the City in May
2017.
*Assumptions: Ramps have a 10% slope. Floor-to-floor height is 10 feet.
