HomeMy WebLinkAboutSupplemental Parking Information Memo TO: Ad-Hoc City Hall Advisory Committee FROM: Kaylea Kathol, Project Manager DATE: June 16, 2017 RE: Supplemental Parking Information The following supplemental parking information is provided to (a) inform the Committee on general parking costs and (b) give perspective on the minimum space requirements for a functional parking structure. 2016 Cost Estimates for Parking Alternatives: • Structured Underground $35,000 - $45,000 per stall • Structured Above Ground $20,000 - $25,000 per stall • Surface Lot $ 5,000 - $ 7,000 per stall Estimates provided in the 2016 City of Ashland Downtown Parking Management Strategy Report by Rick Williams Consulting: http://www.ashland.or.us/SIB/files/050217-Downtown_Parking_Management_Strategy.pdf General Remarks of Parking: (1) How many surface stalls could fit in a given area? Number of surface stalls can be generally estimated by dividing surface area of the lot, in square feet, by 350 square feet per stall. General rule of thumb provided to staff by Rick Williams Consulting in electronic communication dated July 13, 2017. (2) Could a parking structure fit in a given area? In general, a parking structure provides a logical layout for circulation and parking when it has, at a minimum, dimensions of 100 by of 200 feet*. This generalization was provided by Steve Ennis (Architect) in a parking structure feasibility study conducted for the City in May 2017. *Assumptions: Ramps have a 10% slope.
