A RESOLUTION PLACING THE FREMONT COTTONWOOD AT 380 CLAY STREET
ON THE CITY OF ASHLAND HERITAGE TREE LIST
RECITALS:
A. Ashland Municipal Code 18.4.5.060 establishes the City of Ashland Heritage Tree
designation for trees that are deserving of special status due to distinctive form, size,
age, location, species,unique qualities, or historical significance.
B. The Fremont Cottonwood(Populus fremontii) located at 380 Clay Street and referred to
as the `Tree of Hope' is of significant size, age, and importance to the Ashland
community.
C. The tree stands approximately 75 feet tall,measures 6 feet in diameter at breast height,
and spreads its canopy over 70 to 90 feet. As a fully mature specimen of exceptional
stature and community significance, it has prompted substantial citizen efforts to protect
it from development and was designated Ashland's Tree of the Year in 2013.
D. The Tree Management Advisory Committee has recommended the Tree of Hope for a
Heritage Tree designation.
E. The City of Ashland owns 380 Clay Street and it is the desire of City Council to
designate the Tree of Hope as a Heritage Tree.
THE CITY OF ASHLAND HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The "Tree of Hope" Fremont Cottonwood located at 380 Clay Street is designated
as a local Heritage Tree and is thus included on the City of Ashland Heritage Tree List.
SECTION 2. This resolution is effective upon adoption.
This resolution was duly PASSED and ADOPTED this �day of
