A RESOLUTION CALLING A SPECIAL ELECTION ON JUNE 29, 1993, IN THE CITY
OF ASHLAND FOR THE PURPOSES OF SUBMI'!-I-ING TO THE VOTERS OF THE
CITY A MEASURE FOR A TWO-YEAR SERIAL TAX RATE LEVY TO PROVIDE FUNDS
FOR THE OPERATION OF CULTURAL AND RECREATIONAL PROGRAMS; WITH THE'
LEVY TO BE ASSESSED BEYOND THAT NOW AUTHORIZED BY ARTICLE XI,
SECTION 11, OF THE OREGON CONSTITUTION.
BE IT RESOLVED .BY THE CITY OF ASHLAND AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.' A special election is called to be held in the City of Ashland, Oregon, on
June 29, 1993, at which election there shall be referred to the voters for their adoption
or rejection the following proposed measure:
CAPTION:
CHILDREN'S CULTURAL AND RECREATIONAL TWO-YEAR SERIAL
LEVY.
QUESTION: Shall City levy 97¢ per $1000 taxable value for two years outside the tax
base for operating purposes beginning in 1993-947
EXPLANATION: This measure authorizes the City of Ashland to levy a maximum
of 97 cents per thousand dollars of true cash value of taxable property.
The measure will provide funds to substantially restore several programs
for Ashland School District students, grades kindergarten through twelfth,
which were eliminated or reduced because of Ballot Measure Five.
Various programs will be funded'thro. ugh this levy such as speech and
debate team, musical performances, marketing, vocational and business
clubs, Ashland Teen Center, resident outdoor school, .drama, student
newspaper and yearbook, athletics, school libraries add youth and adult
community activities. Restored programs will be conducted by the
Ashland School District through an agreement with the City of Ashland
Park and Recreation Commission. The estimated amount of money to
be raised by this levy is $873,000 in 1993-94 and.S890,000 in 1994o95.
The tax levy is subject to the other governmental limits of Section 11b,
Article Xl, of the Oregon Constitution.
SECTION 2. The cty recorder is requested and directed to g ve due notice of such
special elect~on as provided ~n the laws of the State of Oregon and the charter and
ordinances of the City of Ashland, Oregon.
This resolution was read by title only in, accordance with Ashland Municipal Code
§2.04.090 and duly PASSED and ADOPTED May 24, 1993.
