N.urnbers,,. * on 'ballot mixed up By Monica Alleven Of The Tidings Ashland voters shouldn't look for measures 5! through 54 on the May 15 ballot, because they won't be there. Ashland City Recorder Nan Franklin said different numbers will appear on the May 15 ballots because new numbers were a~- signed to the measures when they reached the Jackson County clerk's office. The city's four measures all are -found on the ballot under one ~.~:- tion labeled "City of Ashland." What's been advertised~as measure 51 is shown on the sample ballot as 15-1; 52 is 15-2; 53is:t5-6; and 54 is 15..7, she said. . T~e measures are a proposal to k~orgorate the ¢xis~ng l~.li~a and fi~e Emergency Mec~al Illclan serial levies into ~e' '~- tirnated 1991-92 tax base; a five- year recreational serial low for Daniel Meyer Pool and two measures regarding open spa, ce. Staff in the county clerk s of- .lice assign numbers to the measures as they're submitted, so the measures proposed by one city or district do not necessariiy.fol- low in numerical sequence, a ~clerk's spokeswoman said Friday. Franklin said she discovered the discrepancy after picking up the sample ballots on Thursday and notified the three political actions committees that have formed opposition and support of open space measures. Voters should be aware that they should not look for those numbers on the ballots, she said. Members of at least one politi- cal action committee were upset when they learned of the error. "I am very upset, and I don't under- stand how the wrong information got out there," said Alice Levy of Citizens for Fair Taxation. Not all of the committee's 100 or so signs have been put up, but many have been posted along Siskiyou Boulevard, and she was unsure Friday how the committee would rectify the problem, she said.
