WHEREAS, people of all ages must be made aware of what they can do
!~:5~7 ,..-t..to prevent themselves, their families, neighborhoods, and workplaces
i2~} ~" from being harmed by violence, drugs, and other crime;
r-?7_/:~,..WHEREAS, effective crime prevention programs excel because of
U.~.:-'ii~":%.partnerships among law enforcement, other government agencies, civic
i{!?.(!~ :)igroups, schools and individuals as they help to rebuild a sense of
~%!i~!~)-:':..;'icommunal responsibility and shared pride; and
:tj'.!!):~WHEREAS, crime prevention initiatives are more than self-protection
!:i~!e.:,.~;and security, but must promote positive alternatives to delinquency and
!,'~ ~ i drugs among young people and emphasize the power of youth to better
' , communities.
":':~'~:"~'THEREFORE, I, Catherine M. Golden, Mayor, do hereby proclaim
~;'. October 1996 as
CRIME PREVENTION MONTH IN ASHLAND

~.~ --<~ and urge all citizens, government agencies, public and private institutions,
._:; .~ and businesses to increase their participation in our community's
; ':'~; prevention efforts and thereby promote good citizenship.
