HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996.-1203 PROCLAMATIONS"IOTH ANNUAL CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLE DAY" WHEREAS, solid waste disposal and a dwindling capacity in our landfills is a critical national problem; and WHEREAS, garden waste contributes a significant volume in our landfills; and Troop 112 of the Boy Scouts of America, with assistance from the Ashland Parks Department, picked up and chipped over 5,000 Christmas trees last year; and WHEREAS, WHEREAS, the chipped material was used on park trails and as mulch for plants and did not enter the "waste stream"; and WHEREAS, the Ashland Lions are supporting this effort by donating volunteer power and equipment to transport the pick-up crews. NOW THEREFORE, I, Catherine M. Golden, Mayor of the City of Ashland, do hereby proclaim Saturday, January 4, 1997 as: "CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLE DAY IN ASHLAND" and hereby urge all citizens to set out their tree near the curb on Friday, January 3, to be picked up on Saturday, January 4, between 9:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M., and to consider making a donation to assist the Troop in their community service activities.
