HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-1116 HUNGER AWARENESS Confirmed by the City Council of the City of Ashland, Oregon, at the regularly scheduled City Council meeting on November 16, 1999. ~ Barbara Christensen, City Recorder PROCLAMA TION hunger hurts the whole community; it harms the proper development of children, compromises the strength of our workforce and undermines Oregon's livability; and ACCESS, Inc., isJackson County's Regional Coordinating Agency for emergency food distribution, and is the Senior Nutrition Program provider, including Loaves and Fishes home delivered meals and the Summer Lunch Program for children; and there are many programs in Jackson County and Ashland that are dedicated to emergency food distribution and providing meals and without such programs as CARING FRIENDS, UNCLE FOOD'S DINER, THE ASHLAND FOOD BANK, THE ASHLAND CHRISTIAN CHURCH, and others, there would be many more hungry people in our community. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Catherine M. Shaw, Mayor of the City of Ashland, do hereby proclaim November 22, 1999, as "Solutions to Hunger Day" in the City of Ashland and urge all citizens to fight hunger by joining in with all the food banks in Ashland and the surrounding area in the solution to this community problem. Dated the 16 day of November, 1999. ~ --~~ ~ ~ Catherine M. Shaw, Mayor ~~ I Barbara Christensen. City Recorder
