~K~EREAS, economic privation, natural disasters, crop failures,
and armed conflicts around the globe have caused
countless numbers of people to face each day without
the basic necessities of life, and
WHEPEAS, as a result men and women in the various communities
of America are seeking to gather resources to allevi-
ate this condition of human life, and
W]qEREAS, for the first time the City of Ashland will have a
CROP HUNGER WALK and churches and civic organizations
are together sponsoring a walk through the main portion~
of the City which will be held on Sunday, October 16th
at 1:00 P.M. and
WHEREAS, the walk will begin at the First Methodist Church on
the corner of N. Main and Laurel Streets and all
citizens of Ashland and indeed of the area are invited
to share in this walk and to make such contributions
as they can in order that more adequate food supplies
may be made available to those in need in our own
community across our nation, and around the globe.
NOW THEREFOPHE I, L. Gordon Medaris, ~.{ayor of the City of Ash-
land, do hereby proclaim Sunday, October 16, 1983 as a day for
the City of Ashland's
and that this day be set apart as a time to share our own good
fortune with those in need ever.vwhere.
