HomeMy WebLinkAbout1981-0318 CHILD WEEKPROCLAMATION WHEREAS, The Ashland and Southern Oregon Associations for the education of young children in order to call attention to the need for quality care and education of the young have designated April 6th, "THE WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD:" and WHEREAS, the importance of the observance is undeniable since the future of our nation depends on the way our children are reared. This delightful, awesome responsibility belongs, first of all, to parents. No amount of professional care or skillful solicitude can take the place of normal, lov- ing parents in a well-ordered home. Only when economic, physical or other circumstances prevent an adequate home life, should this responsibility be delegated entirely to others; and WHEREAS, a child should be appreciated for what he is and what he has the potential to become. The home, the school and the community should cooperate to help a child develop positive learning goals and respect for other persons, evaluate his strengths and needs and personal relation- ships, and provide him with realistic and challenging opportunities. NOW THEREFORE, I, L. Gordon Medaris, Mayor of the City of Ashland, do hereby proclaim April 6-10th as the "WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD" in Ashland, and urge all residents to give cognizance to the importance of child rearing in the development of a useful and admirable adulthood. Signed this 7~ day of March, 1981. Mayor ATTEST: City Recorder
