ASHLAND CITY COUNCIL
July 1, 1975
ROLL CALL
Having led the Pledge of Allegiance, the Mayor called the meet-
ing to order at 7:30 p.m., in the Council Chambers on the above
date. Allen, McCannon, Hoffarth, Laws and Ragland were present
McDowell was noted as absent.
MINUTES
Laws moved that minutes for the adjourned meetings of June 24
and June 26,197S be approved and placed on file; Hoffarth
seconded and the motion passed unanimously on voice vote.
FINANCIAL
COMMENTARY
Hoffarth suggested that depreciation be included in funding re-
quest to County for their participatio~ in operation of the
Rescue Unit and Finance Director Nelson said ~uchrecommenda~m
would be considered. Mayor Prickett reminded Council that by
taking depreciation the City would be commiting itself to
replacement of the equipment which had been ~ecured with funds
donated.
PUBLIC FORUM
There were no comments from the audience. Councilman Laws
asked for time to comment at the end of the meeting.
STREET NAME
SUGGESTION
A letter from School Superintendent Stanley Jobe was read by
the City Administrator in which it was suggested that a street
off Beach Street be named Larkin Lane in honor of early setter:
of the City, the Larkin Grubb family. City Administrator
Almquist recommended that the matter be referred to the Plan-
ning Commission; McCannon so moved; Ragland seconded and on
roll call, all YES.
HUMAN RESOURCES
QUESTIONNAIRE
Several modifications of the questionnaire to be sent to the
citizens of Ashland seeking input relative to social needs of
the community were made by Council and accepted by Chairman
Elaine Shanafelt. Laws moved that committee be permitted to
send questionnaires with utility billings; McCannon seconded
and on roll call, passed unanimously.
CITIZEN
INPUT
Councilman Laws asked Council to consider methods whereby City
would be open to community input through the newspaper, Chambex
and other means of communication for comment~ l~t~e to the
ing needed services in the City be studied. McCannon felt that
attendance at various meetings would be an avenue of communica-
tion. Elaine Shanafelt suggested a town meeting situation whet
ideas could be exchanged perioically. The Mayor accepted the
suggestion box plan and directed City Administrator Almquist tc
install same in the utility department and the Chamber of Com-
merce for a period of one month for a trial and that the matter
be placed on the next agenda for further consideration.
