ASHLAND CITY COUNCIL
JANUARY 12, 1970
An adjourned meeting of the City Council was held in the Council
Chambers of the City Hall on the above date. The meeting was
called to order by Mayor McKeen. All Councilmen, were present.
City Administrator Boshears gave a brief background on the Oak
Court Subdivision matter. Following some discussion, it was
moved by Haines, seconded by Bailer that staff be directed to
return the original petitions and would then work with the
petitioners to find an equitable solution to the assessment
problem. Council would then entertain a new petition. On roll
call, carried unanimously.
Following some discussion, it was moved by Haines, seconded by
Bailer that staff be authorized to proceed with a settlement
on the damaged backhoe and acquisition of a new backhoe. On
roll call, carried unanimously.
City Administrator Boshears explained that, in past years, the
City of Ashland has furnished the Welcome Wagon with utility
connect information. He asked that Council again authorize staff
to provide this information for the coming year. Following brief
discussion, it was moved by Bailer, seconded by Haines that Council
give authorization for the Welcome Wagon to have access. to the utility
connect information. There was some discussion regarding why the
Welcome Wagon was the only group given this information. On roll
call, carried unanimously.
It was moved by Haines, seconded by Jones that Councilman Robert
Bailer be nominated to the position of Council Chai~an. On roll
call, carried unanimously.
Haines indicated that he would like to have a closed session of
the Council to discuss the nomination of a new councilman. There
was some discussion on this suggestion. It was moved by Haines,
seconded by Willstatter that the meeting be recessed to discuss the
matter of a new councilman. Mr. Rountree, Ashland Daily Tidings,
protested this action, indicating that the meeting should be open
to the press since salaries, etc., are not being discussed. On
roll call, carried unanimously. The Council recessedat approximately
5:25 p.m.
The Council reconvened at approximately 6:40 p.m. They reported
that a decision had not been reached and further study was needed.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned subject
to the call of the Mayor.
