HomeMy WebLinkAbout1968-0226 SPECIALMINUTES FOR SPECIAL MEETING ASHLAND CITY COUNCIL February 26, 1968 The Common Council of the City of Ashland met in adjourned session at 12:00 noon this date. Mayor Neill presided. Councilmen Baker, Cottle, Jones, Roberts, Ward and Whithamwere present° City Attorney Skerry presented a Resolution authorizing Harry A. Skerry, Jr., City Attorney, to represent the City of Ashland, members of the Common Council and the City Administrator in the mandamus suit entitled "HoEo Nelson et al. vs City of Ashland et al. Moved by Cottle, seconded by Ward, that under a suspension of the rules, the Resolution be passed to second reading by title only. On roll call, carried unanimously. Following the second reading, it was moved by Baker seconded by Cottle, that the Resolution be adopted° On roll call, carried unanimously. City Administrator Boshears presented a letter prepared by Finance Director Mohr, pertaining to Parking Meter Revenues, etc~ Following some discussion, it was moved by Ward, seconded by Whitham~ that the matter be referred to the Parking Meter Study Committee. On roll call, carried unanimously. City Administrator Boshears brought up the matter of the Council making a decision as to what plan should be presented to the voters on the May 28, 1968 Primary Election Ballot regarding the new tax base rate. Following considerable discussion pertaining to three alternatives as presetned, it was the consensus of opinion that Plan C in the amount of $211,960.00 should be selected. It was moved by Roberts, seconded by Ward that City Attorney Skerry be instructed to prepare a Resolution outlining Plan C for presentation to the County Clerk for placing on the Ballot of May 28th Primary Election. The Resolution is to be presented at an adjourned meeting March 12, 1968. On roll call, carried 5-1, with Jones dissenting. Councilman Baker requested that clarification of his vote being that a lesser increase would have been preferred~ There being no further business, the meeting adjourned subject to the call of the Mayor.
