WHEREAS, The Office of the City Recorder provides the professional link between
the citizens, the local governing bodies and agencies of government at other levels;
and
WHEREAS, City Recorders have pledged to be ever mindful of their neutrality and
impartiality, rendering equal service to all; and
WHEREAS, The City Recorder serves as the information center on functions of local
government and community; and
WHEREAS, City Recorders continually strive to improve the administration of the
affairs of the Office of the City Recorder through participation in education programs,
seminars, workshops and the annual meetings of their state, province, county and
international professional organizations; and
WHEREAS, It is most appropriate that we recognize the accomplishments of the
Office of the City Recorder.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Catherine M. Shaw, Mayor of the City of Ashland, hereby
proclaim April 30 through May 6, 2000 as
"City Recorders Week"
And further extend appreciation to our City Recorder, Barbara Christensen, and to all
City Recorders and Municipal Clerks for the vital services they perform and their
exemplary dedication to the communities they represent.

the thirtieth anniversary of Earth Day will be celebrated worldwide on April 22,
2000; and
Earth Day serves as an inspiration and catalyst for change to bring our global
society in harmony with the natural world and each other; and
Earth Day 2000 has the international theme of "Clean Energy Now"; and
Ashland has played a vital role in encouraging and rewarding the development and
use of renewable energy and promoting the efficient use of energy by programs
such as the Solar Pioneer Program, our energy and water conservation programs,
and solid waste reduction and recycling activities.
WHEREAS~ the above actions lead to reductions in pollutants that produce greenhouse gases and
global warming; and
WHEREAS, the City of Ashland is a local government dedicated to promoting progress toward
sustainable communities through education, inspiration and empowerment; and
WHEREAS, Earth Day 2000 offers an unprecedented opportunity to commit to building a
healthy planet, flourishing communities and empowered citizens.
FURTHERMORE, let it be known that the City of Ashland commits to supporting the Earth Day
Network's Earth Day 2000 campaign by endorsing the Clean Energy Agenda and undertaking
programs that further the clean and efficient use of energy within its borders.
THEREFORE, I, Catherine M. Shaw, Mayor of the City of Ashland, do hereby proclaim April 22,
2000 as
"EARTH DAY"
in the City of Ashland and urge all citizens to recognize and participate in this observance and
commit to pursue renewable energy opportunities.
