Emergency medical services are a vital public service; and
The members of emergency medical services are ready to provide lifesaving care to
those who experience sudden illness or ihjury; and
Access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival end recovery 'rate
of those who experience sudden illness { injury; and
Emergency medical services providen h~ve traditionally served as the safety net of
America's health care system; end
enlmuce their lifesaving skills; end
WHEREAS,
It is appropriate to reco~ize the value and the accomplishments of emergency medical
services provideis by designating Emergency Medical Services Week; and
WHEREAS,
Injury prevention and the appwpfiate use of the EMS system will help reduce national
health care costs; and
WHEREAS,
The members of Ashland Fire & Rescue are joined by other concerned citizens of
Ashland, us well us businesses, schools, ~ervice clubs, and organizations in their
emergency medical services efforts; end
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Catherine Shaw, Mayor of the Ci~ of Ashland, do hereby proclaim the week
of May 14 - 20, 2000, as:
NATIONAL EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK
and call upon the people of Ashland to celebrate the accor~plishments of EMS providers, and to
remember, as the 2000 National Emergency Medical Sen, Ices Week theme suggests:
"EMS: CARING FOR THE COMMUNITY"

pioneers and their descendants; land
WHEREAS, these fine examples of 19m and barly 20m century buildings
contribute to an approciation of~our heritage; and
lack of sense of place; and
WHEREAS, National Historic Preservation Week provides an opportunity to
recognize the value of Ashland'$ historic resources and encourages
their preservation for Future generations.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Catherine M. Shaw, Mayor of the City of Ashland, do
hereby proclaim the week of May 14 - 20, 2000 as
"NATIONAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION WEEK"
and call upon the people of Ashland to recognize and participate in this
observance.
