A RE~0LUTION REQUESTING THE CONTINUATION AND FULL
FEDERAL FUNDING OF THE JTPA SUMMER YOUTH PROGRAM,
INCLUDING SECTIONS 2B, 2C AND 2Y.
THE CITY OF ASHLAND RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.
The City of Ashland has been in successful partnership with the
Job Council, Oregon Youth Conservation Corp, and Phoenix High
School since 1992. The JTPA Summer YOuth Program 2B, 2C, and
especially 2Y federal funding has allowed the city of Ashland,
and public and private partners in the Hamilton creek Coordinated
Resource Management Plan to implement watershed health projects.
Many of these activities, such as fuel break construction,
wildfire fuel reduction, erosion mitigation, wildlife enhancement
projects, and recreational trail construction would not have
occurred without the efforts and dedication of the youth work
crews. Graduates of the JTPA program have spoken movingly of the
personal benefits they received from the program at such public
events as the Governors Watershed Enhancement Board Conference.
This program has contributed greatly to the welfare of the people
of the City of Ashland, and has turned around the lives of many
at-risk youth. The JTPA Summer Youth Program has met multiple
social and environmental objectives and deserves continued
federal support.
This resolution was READ and DULY ADOPTED at a regular meeting of
the City Council of the City of Ashland on the 2/ day of
,1995.
