HomeMy WebLinkAbout0619 SRI Chinmoy PeacePROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the City of Ashland, situated in the beautiful Rogue Valley, has a rich and fascinating history, wast natural resources as well as a people who have always embraced the goals of Peace and freedom -- a community of Persons living in productive harmony despite diversity of culture, religion, and national origin; and WHEREAS, the Sd Chinmoy International Peace-Blossoms is a family of over 700 landmarks of exceptional beauty and historical significance in over fifty nations including continents, nations, states, cities, schools, mountains, islands, lakes, bridges and airports -- all dedicated as daily reminders of our need for peace; and WHEREAS, the people of Ashland seek to share their fortitude of spirit and inspire others through their deep commitment to peace, and align themselves with the new momentum of international understanding, harmony and global fellowship promoted by both the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run and International Peace-Blossoms; and WHEREAS, the Peace-Blossoms takes their name from Sri Chinmoy, an international peace advocate who has been spreading a message of peace by fostering peace within the hearts and lives ofindividuals in many nations through his creative literary, musical and artistic offerings; through his inspirational Oneness- Home Peace Run; and through his encouragement of the spirit of self-improvement and mutual harmony amongst world luminaries and local dtizeus alike; and WHEREAS, the role ofa Sri Chinmoy Peace-Blossom City is to encourage its citizens and neighbors to foster humanity's most precious resource of peace, thereby ensuring that this land will be both fruitful and fulfilling for all of our citizens and for all those who succeed us. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Coundl and Mayor, on behalf of the citizens of Ashland, hereby proclaim our city as a "SRI CHINMOY PEACE-BLOSSOM CITY" and do hereby encourage all citizens of Ashland to honor and recognize this lasting dedication to peace, and aspire for the day when peace shall ring forth from every human heart and goodwill toward others will reign in every community across this nation and around the world.
