Meeting called to order at 7:00 p.m. Members Present: John McClendon (Chair) Donn Todt Bryan Nelson January Jennings Robbin Pearce (Staff) Approval of Minutes - Approved as submitted. Guests: Ron Blanchard, General Contractor for Ashland Village Subdivision and Ken Ogden, Architect for Schmidt and Associates, Community Works project on East Main Street. Old Business: A. Arbor Week Review - All present felt the week's activities were a success. B. Trees & Sidewalks - Tabled until the June meeting. New Business: A. Planning Actions for Site Review: 1. Planning Action 97-040, 1175 E. Main, Community Works - Ogden showed the model of the project. Discussion included function of plant material in specific areas, alternative plant materials, nature of the project, and retaining the liquidambers. Site Review recommendation stated that existing street trees need to be preserved if at all possible by adjusting the sidewalk to accommodate them. Commission also recommended a clematis instead of the wisteria; recommend large trees along drive; need irrigation plan; widen the landscape strip on the south end to accommodate large stature trees. B. Allocation of funds for Bagpipe Major Murray Huggins - It was agreed to pay him $35. January will request a check through Nancy and write Huggins a Thank You note. ASHLAND TREE COMMISSION MINUTES MAY 7, 1997 C. Effects of Flooding along Ashland Creek through Lithia Park - Donn Todt had to leave to attend a meeting on this subject so this item was tabled until June meeting. Goal Setting - Commission came up with the following goals: 1. Review landscape and planning rules and make recommendations to all effected departments. 2. Define and include in street tree specifications, root barrier diagrams to include specific trees for specific size of parkrows. 3. Amend and/or add to the street tree list. E. Discussion of Summer Schedule - Commission voted to cancel Tree Commission meetings for the months of July and August. All Planning Actions will be reviewed by a rotating subcommittee. Vl.
