Meeting called to order at 7:00 p.m.

Approval of Minutes - Minutes were approved with changes.
Guests: Karen Brenten - Naturescape Design, Russ Dale - Project Developer
on Tolman Creek Road.
Old Business:
A. Trees and Sidewalks - The Commission is supportive of the new permit
process. They want to be sure it is kept simple. Commission will work on a
handout in the future and in conjunction with Code Compliance.
B. Subcommittee Schedule - Jennings, Nelson and Brenten agreed to serve
as subcommittee for the month of July. Nelson, McClendon and Todt will
serve as subcommittee review for August. Staff will notify each group prior
for exact time and place.
C. Other - There was no other new business.
New Business:
A. Planning Actions for Site Review:
1. Planning Action 97-052 (1971 Siskiyou)- Site Review for a 12 unit
apartment complex on Siskiyou Bv. Plan was complete and comprehensive.
No recommendations.
2. Planning Action 97-038 (2330 E. Main St.) - Outline Plan and Site Review
approval for a 96 lot development on the corner of East Main and Tolman
Creek Road. Dale was very helpful in explaining the project. Commission
recommendations included: Since there is no off-street parking - 1)

option to plant large and medium street trees or 2) Parkrows should be a
minimum of five feet with medium and small stature trees and root barriers
where appropriate.
3. Planning Action 97-051 (685 A St.) - Modification of Site Review on A
Street. Recommendation: Because of the visibility of the project, Commission
recommends use of a turf mix/blend that requires minimal water. A watering
and maintenance schedule should be implemented.
4. Planning Action 97-053 (565 A St.) - Site Review for a mixed use
building on A Street. Recommendations include: 1) Use root barriers for
bamboo along the full length of the planting strip and 2) Root barriers are
required for Acer rubrum in parking strips in back parking lot.
B. Effects of Flooding - This item was tabled until the next ful commission
meeting.
C. Ashland Village Root Barrier Update - Staff informed Commission that
after extensive dialogue with the developer, general contractor, City
Engineering Department and the landscape contractor, the rigid root barriers
will be installed according to manufacturer specifications.
D. Presentation to City Council in December - Staff encouraged the
commissioners to watch the next City Council meeting and observe the
presentation by the Conservation Commission. Tree Commission
presentation will be in December. The next full Commission meeting will be
September and the commissioners will need to decide how they want to
organize their presentation.
E. Allocation of Funds before July 1st Deadline - Staff proposed the purchase
of t-shirts. Commissioners voted to donate any additional money to the Lithia
Park restoration fund.
F. Other - There was no other new business.
