"17TH ANNUAL CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLE DAY"
· Solid waste disposal and a dwindling capacity in our landfills is a critical national
proble~
· Garden waste contributes a significant volume in our landfills.
· Troop 112 of the Boy Scouts of America, with assistance from the Ashland Parks
Department, picked up and chipped over 6,000 Christ~ trees last year.
· The chipped material was used on park trails and as mulch for plants and did not
enter the "waste stream."
· The Ashland Host Lions and EarlyBird Lions are supporting this effort bydonating
volunteer power and equipment to transport the pick-up crews.
NOW THEREFORE, the City Council and Mayor, on behalf of the citizem of Ashland,
hereby proclaim Saturday, January 11, 2003 as:
"CHRISTMAS TREE
RE CLE DAY IN ASHLAND"
and herebyurge all citizens to set out their tree near the curb on Friday, January 10, to be
picked up on Saturday, January 11, and to consider making a donatior~ to assist the Troop
in their community service activities.
