18TH ANNUAL CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLE I.:__
· Solid waste disposal and a dwindling capacityin our landfills is a critical I~,1~ i~
problem*
· Garden waste contributes a significant volume in our landfills.
· Troop 112 of the BoyScouts of America, with assistance ~rom the Aslfl,md
Department, picked up and chipped over 6,000 C3.ristmas trees last ypar.
* The chipped material was used on parktrails and as mtflch for plants and didenter the "waste stream." ~'~
· The Ashland Host Lions and EarlyBird Lions are supporting this effon i,v dcHidl
volunteer power and equipment to transport the pick-up crews. .l~
NOW THEREFORE, the City Council and Mayor, on behalf of the citiz, e~s ,,1'
hereby proclaim Saturday, January 10, 2004 as:
"CHRISTMAS TREE
RECYCLE DAYIN ASHLAND"
and herebyurge all citizens to set out their tree near the curb on Friday, Jam~ary 9. to be
picked up on Saturday, January 10, and to consider making a donation to assist the 'l'r{>op
in their community service activities.
