RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION URGING A YES VOTE ON MEASURE 30
RECITALS:
A) On February 3, 2004 the residents of Oregon are being asked to vote on Measure 30.
Ballots will be received in mailboxes the third week of January.
B) The Mayor and City Council urge all residents to consider voting Yes on supporting the two-
year temporary tax increase initiated by our State elected officials, with a provision for a third
year tax increase if the economy does not improve.
C) Although arguments may be made on government inefficiency and increased spending over
the last decade, we feel a no vote will severely hamper our schools, social services, and
medical care. As Oregonians we feel this is unacceptable to our citizens.
D) The temporary tax increase will provide a buffer to allow our State leaders to enact
leadership for stable funding to provide services to our population. One of the most
important functions of our society is education. From pre-school through higher education,
the successful education of our society will provide the basis for a strong economy for our
state. We must also take care of our elderly and less fortunate.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ASHLAND, OREGON, RESOLVES:
SECTION 1. The Mayor and City Councilors urge the residents of Ashland to take the time to
study the issue, make sure they exercise their right to vote and consider voting Yes at the
upcoming election.
SECTION 2. This resolution takes effect upon signing by the Mayor.
