What schools have you attended? Hoover Elem., Medford; Ojai Valley School, Calif;
Occidental College, Los Angeles; Lewis & Clark College, Portland; University of New
Mexico, Albuquerque.
What degrees do you hold? B.A., Political Science; M.A. Latin American Studies
What additional training or education have you had that would apply to this position?
Extensive experience professionally in reporting on city and county governments.
2. Related Experience
What prior work experience have you had that would help you if you were appointed to
this position?
I've had extensive experience writing about and reporting on city government, charter
review processes, city committees and commissions, since 1978.
Do you feel it would be advantageous for you to have further training in this rield, such
as attending conferences or seminars? Yes. Why? Municipal law is a constantly changing
subject, and I'd be willing to learn more via seminars and conferences.
3. Interests
Why are you applying for this position? Ashland has a city government that
functions well and, on most occasions, is highly representative of its residents. The city
charter is the governing law of the city, and changes or potential changes will have
repercussions well into the future. I'd like to be a part, because I bring a thoughtfulness
and no specific agenda to that review process. I just love Ashland.
4. Availability
Are you available to attend special meetings, in addition to the regularly scheduled
meetings? Yes. Do you prefer day or evening meetings? I prefer evening meetings, or
late afternoon meetings.
5. Additional Information
How long have you lived in this community? ! was born in Medford in 1952, but my
family has been involved in community affairs since 1907. I have resided in Ashland
since 1997.

The charter review process likely will attract people who have already made up their
minds about specific changes they want in the charter. I don't have any agenda. I know
Ashland, and its history, understand what works and want to take a look at the charter to
determine, and listen to residents, to determine what might work better.
