That includes 20 years as a newspaper reporter and editor, during which time I covered local government in small, medium and large communities. Subsequently, I worked in state and national government, including both the executive and legislative branches. And, I done some international work, including advising governments in newly-democratic countries on their communications efforts and as an observer to ensure clean electiions. Just this last month, I've completed a report for the World Bank on improving its anti- corruption communications. Over the years, I have seen some governmental activities that work well, and others that have fallen short. My interaction with local government today is as a small business owner, having parchased with my wife a bed and breakfast inn while also continuing to operate a communications consulting business that we initiated in Washington, DC.
