We need to correct the false claims reported in Saturday's paper.
1. The Nevada LI D flyer referenced in the article is factual. There arE~ no personal
attacks in the flyer.
2. There were personal attacks in the article and each one was false.
3. The City claimed that facts in the flyer were untrue yet presented no evidence to
dispute any fact. The facts stand. The article had broad unsubstantiated charges
and those charges were not supported by the facts.
4. The candidates knew that their answers would be distributed to thE~ neighborhood.
I forwarded to Barbara Christensen the candidates' original emails confirming that
their answers to LID questions would be distributed. They knew this in advance.
None of the emails were personal emails.
5. The City claimed that Paula Brown had been cleared of conflict of interest
charges. That is incorrect. She has not been cleared of any violations.
6. The Government Standards and Practice Commission, which some citizens call
the state ethics board, is the only state authority that can make such a declaration.
The City attorney has no authority to clear Paula Brown, only the GiSPC.
7. Since the City uses the attorney's opinion regarding a limited question and a
limited fact situation as the basis for a broad claim that Brown has been cleared, I
ask that the City attorney put his opinion in the Council Communication packet, so
citizens can read it on-line.
a, Because we citizens are not allowed to correct errors or key omissions in the draft
minutes of public testimony at Council, even in cases of false char!ges, I request
that my prepared remarks be included in their entirety, unedited, as part of the
Council Communication packet.
Thank you.
