Charter Review Committee holds first meeting.
The recently appointed Charter Review Committee will hold its first meeting on Thursday, July 1 at 3:00
p.m. in council chambers at 1175 East Main.
The committee members include: Hal Cloer, John Enders, Laurie MacGraw, Keith Massie, Carole
Wheeldon, Pam Marsh, Kate Culbertson, Michael Riedeman, Roy Bashaw and Don Montgomery.
The primary function of the charter review committee is to review the existing charter to determine if it
will adequately serve the community well into the future. If necessary, the committee is to prepare a draft charter
for the City of Ashland. The proposed charter will ultimately be reviewed by the city council for placement on
the ballot for the voters of Ashland. The committee is not obligated to work within a set timeframe.
The current charter for the City of Ashland was last reviewed and amended in 1972, and voters
subsequently approved the proposed amendments. A charter can only be amended by a vote of the people.
The city council approved a resolution creating the Charter Review Committee at its May 4 meeting.
