CHARTER REVIEW COMMITTEE
ACTION ITEMS DEFINED BY THE TIMELINE SUBCOMMITEE
October 15, 2004
At the October 7, 2004 meeting of the Committee, the Timeline
Subcommittee defined several action items that should be
accomplished in order to:

Prepare for presentations to Ashland service clubs.

Prepare for public forum/meetings
In order to accomplish these action items, Committee members were
requested to volunteer to undertake assignments for one or more
of the action items.
Listed below are the action items - please indicate, by return e-
mail (to Carol, Pam or Don) which action items you are willing to
work to accomplish:
Action Item 1
: Contact Ashland service clubs from the list
compiled by the staff and establish a schedule
for presentations regarding the Charter Review
Committee activities.
Action Item 2:
Request Committee members to volunteer to serve as
a speakers bureau, for presentations to Ashland
service clubs. It would be appropriate for any
Committee member who is a member of an Ashland
service club(s) to volunteer to make a
presentation to that club(s).
Action Item 3:
Prepare a brochure, based on the "Fact Sheet"
th
(handed out at the October 7 meeting), for
speakers bureau presentations.
Action Item 4:
Prepare brief (one to two pages) white papers for
each of the political issues, which provide
background, pros, cons and recommendations
relative to each issue defined by the Timeline
Subcommittee. Those issues are:
a.Mayor-manager structure/roles/relationship,
and mayoral veto/ability to vote on council
issues.
b.Election of the city recorder and municipal
Judge and the matter of compensation of
elected officials.
c.Election/powers of the Park Commission and
related issues re: the organization of the
Parks Department.
d.Election of city council by positions, number
of council members and council term limits.
e.Provisions for annexations by the City.
f.The issue of separate police and fire
departments.
g.The issue of a City Band.
h.The issue of the powers of the Planning
Commission.
Action Item 5:
Establish a subcommittee to plan the public forum
including a definition of the protocol for the
forum and prepare the necessary material and
schedule for each forum.
At the present time, the following Committee members have
volunteered for action item assignment:
