RESOLUTION NO. 90-~~~
A RESOLUTION DECLARING THE CITY OF ASHLAND'S
COMMITMENT TO FULL ACCESS FOR THE HANDICAPPED
WHEREAS, many of Ashland's citizens and visitors have handicaps
which require accommodation in public areas; and
WHEREAS, the City of Ashland has completed many projects
eliminating barriers to the handicapped, but the City
of Ashland recognizes that many such barriers remain;
and
WHEREAS, it is the goal of the City of Ashland to make all city
facilities accessible to the handicapped and to
encourage handicapped accessibility to all public
areas, whether owned publicly or privately; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary to have an ongo ing progr am el im ina ting
barriers to the handicapped as a part of the
administration of the City.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS:
The City of Ashland commits itself to the elimination of
barriers to the handicapped in all facilities controlled by the
Ci ty of Ashland.
In order to implement its commitment, the City of Ashland
shall budget and spend approximately $10,000. per year on
streets, sidewalks, and other public areas.
The City of Ashland, when remodeling or making any changes
to buildings within its control shall eliminate all barriers to
the handicapped on said buildings insofar as such elimination of
barriers is economically feasible.
The City of Ashland shall sponsor educational activities to
encourage all citizens of Ashland to be aware of the problems of
handicap access and to encourage said citizens to eliminate
barriers to the handicapped in all public places.
The foregoing Resolution was READ and DULY ADOPTED at a
