RESOLUTION NO. 2005- 43
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THAT THE OREGON SHAKESPEARE
FESTIVAL NOT PURSUE TERMINATING ITS MEMBERSHIP NON-PR,OFIT
STATUS, AND REMAIN A MEMBERSHIP, NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION.
Recitals:
WHEREAS, The City of Ashland, its citizens and businesses have had a long and
supportive relationship with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival since its founding in 1935,
and
WHEREAS, OSF has been a membership organization since its founding, with a significant
percentage of its member supporters being businesses and citizens of Ashland the Rogue
Valley, and
WHEREAS, The opportunity for member participation is a valuable democratic tool for
member and community interaction with OSF, which is a major institutional busilness in and
economically vital to Ashland, its businesses and citizens, and
WHEREAS, Continuation of a member/partnership between the Festival, the City of
Ashland, its businesses and citizens is desirable and necessary to all our futures.
THE CITY OF ASHLAND RESOLVES AS FOllOWS:
SECTION 1. The Ashland City Council requests the Oregon Shakespeare Festival Board to
not proceed with eliminating the Festival's status as a membership non-profit, and if that
vote goes forward, we encourage the membership to vote to retain their voting rights.
SECTION 2. The Ashland City Council requests that the Oregon Shakespeare Festival
remain a participatory membership non-profit per its current Bylaws and Articles of
Incorporation.
SECTION 3. This resolution takes effect upon signing by the Mayor.
This resolution was read by title only in accordance with Ashland Municipal Code
92.04. 0 duly PASSED and ADOPTED this 1 sl day of November, 2005.
