RESOLUTION NO. 89-~;t
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ASHLAND ENDORSING THE ALLOCATION OF
LOTTERY FUNDS TOWARDS CONSTRUCTION OF A PORTION OF THE PACIFIC
INSTITUTE OF NATURAL SCIENCES.
WHEREAS, the establishment of the Pacific Institute of Natural Sciences
(PINS) on the campus of Southern Oregon State College would
provide outstanding economic, cultural and educational benefits to
the City of Ashland, Jackson County and the State of Oregon; and
WHEREAS, the pending Budget Appropriations Bill of the U.S. Senate includes
$2,000,000 for the Pacific Institute of Natural Sciences, and is
now being debated in the U.S. House of Representatives; and
WHEREAS, the State of Oregon's matching contribution to the project is
considered vital to the overall success of the project and will
enhance efforts at the U.S. House of Representatives; and
WHEREAS, the opportunity to secure this federal funding will be available
for a very limited time period; and
WHEREAS, the Oregon Legislature has designated $8,000,000 of state lottery
proceeds as a Community Facilities Development Fund, to be used in
support of especially promising economic development projects.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Mayor and City Council of the City of Ashland
respectfully urges the Emergency Board of the Oregon State Le<gislature to
act expeditiously to appropriate $2,000,000 from the Community Development
Facilities Fund toward the construction of the Pacific Institute of Natural
Sciences.
The foregoing Resolution was READ and DULY ADOPTED at a regular
meeting of the City Council of the City of Ashland on the /~-7ZL
