JOINT STUDY SESSION
FEBRUARY 26, 2002
CALL TO ORDER
Planning Commission Chair Mike Gardiner called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Other Planning
Commissioners present were John Fields, Marilyn Briggs, Russ Chapman, Alex Amarotico, Kerry
KenCairn, Mike Morris, and Colin Swales. Ray Kistler was absent. Historic Commissioners present were
Keith Chambers, Gary Foll, Joanne Krippaehne, Jay Leighton, Bob Saladoff, Dale Shostrom and Terry
Skibby. Kay Maser was absent. Staff present were John McLaughlin and Mark Knox.
DISCUSSION OF DESIGN STANDARDS
Knox showed slides of houses recently constructed in and out of historic areas.
The following issues and questions arose regarding the new construction:
Is there a problem with mass and scale and context compatibility?
What could be done as far as floor-area ratio maximums, footprint maximum, front facade, etc.?
Should lot consolidation be disallowed?
A place to start could be with education and advertising.
Do we need more clear and objective standards?
