Meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. Members present Bryan Nelson Karen Marshall Donn Todt Robbin Pearce (Staff) II. Approval of Minutes - Minutes for the February meeting were approved. ilL Guests - Gary Afseth and Church Representative (PA 97-021) IV. Old Business A. Arbor Week - Commission chose five nominations for Tree of the Year Ballot (Ginkgo behind Ashland Library, Osage Orange at Helman and Orange Streets, Historic Almonds on the hills above Ashland, Ponderosa Pine at 558 Holly and the Coast Redwood at 801 Ashland). Other activities to include a tree planting in Lithia Park in memory of Nancy Peterson, the mayor's proclamation and the Tree of the Year plaque presentation. Todt will contact Midge Mauer to organize the tree planting and will also call last year's tree winners to choose a date and time for plaque presentation. Staff will organize the mayor's presentation and contact Department of Forestry to arrange for Tree City USA presentation. B. Recommendation to Planning Commission: Parkrow Width -- This issue was tabled until April meeting. C. Submission of Heritage Trees - Tabled until April. D. Recommended Street Tree List Update -- Kencairn will continue work on this project in April. V. New Business A. Site Reviews: 1. PA 98-017 (1644 Parker) -- Commission commented that additional proposed landscaping be serviced by existing controller. PA 98-022 (112 Helman/Community Health Center) -- Commission felt that the landscaping was adeq uate with the addition of an automated sprinkler system. Ground covers in parking lot strip should be replanted with drought tolerant species. 3. PA 97-021 (44 N. Secondrrrinity Episcopal Church) -- Regarding 11-C-1 b, Commission felt a selection of trees appropriate to the site would be preferable to one tree. Trees could be chosen for fall color, spring interest, etc. Regarding 11- C-1c, 4, Irrigation systems should be installed to assure its success and the highest degree of efficiency. B. Update of Railroad District Tree Planting Project - Tabled until April meeting. C. Tree Commission Subcommittee Assignments - Also tabled until April. VII. Adjournment - Meeting was adjourned at 6:45 p.m. 2
