Meeting called to order at 7: 10 p.m. Present: John McClendon (Chair) Donn Todt (Minutes) Jack Goldberg Nancy Kerr Robbin Pearce (Staff) II. Approval of Minutes - Not available III. Guests: Megan Mitchell and Doyle Brightenburg IV. Old Business: A. Arboretum Status - No report. B. Goals and Vision Planning - Decided to postpone discussion until September meeting. C. "Big Street Trees" list - No update. D. Riparian Area Protection - John McClendon gave a report on the work in process. Pearce suggested a "no touch" policy on riparian areas. E. Trees for Newborns - Kerr estimated that about 15 trees per month would be needed to implement the program. Staff suggested a voucher program with local nurseries rather than having the Parks Department supply the trees. Kerr will check with local nurseries about possible donations. V. New Business: A. Site Review - 1. PA 96-098 (190 Oak St.) - Commission approved plan with a few suggestions made regarding landscape material choice. City will provide a tree for Oak Street to be planted in late autumn. ASHLAND TREE COMMISSION MINUTES AUGUST 8,1996 B. Site Reviews - Report from Pearce on commission review of planning actions. The consensus was to keep the reviews of landscape plans at the regular evening meeting thus doing away with the subcommittee. C. Election of Officers - John McClendon was voted as the new chairperson and Donn Todt and Nancy Kerr will split secretary duties. D. Use of herbicide along irrigation ditches - Discussion of the Talent Irrigation District herbicide damage along TIC ditch. McClendon will draft a letter to be approved at next meeting. E. Location of Tree City USA sign - Goldberg will investigation possible locations for the new sign and report back at next month's meeting. F. Genevive Hall, 531 Clay Street, suggests tree planting and landscaping on overpass side at Ashland Street (Highway 66) and Clay Street. She proposes Crepe Myrtles. Commission will look at this as a possible Tree Commission project. Todt will contact her. VI. Meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m. 2
