Meeting called to order at 7: 1 0 p.m. Present: Nancy Kerr Vince James Dave Mason Mark Jenne (Minutes) John Mc Clendon Rich Whitall Shelly Simmons II. Approval of Minutes - Minutes approved with the addition of Vince James as being in attendance. III. Guests: Kathy Scott Joan Blackburn with the Oak Street citizen group IV. Old Business: A. Update of Recommended Street Tree List - A draft copy was in the minutes. Commissioners will review it and make comments to Donn Todt. B. Arboretum Status - Support for the arboretum continues to grow, new backers with orchard experience have expressed interest and will be meeting with Dave Mason and others in a few weeks. C. Tree Commission Goals - A form was circulated to assess the commission interest in various projects. This form will be mailed to all commissioners, then discussed in the December meeting. D. Tree Inventory Tutorial Status - There are still problems with the computer. Nancy Slocum has tried to run the program from her computer without success, even after working with Phil Undo Mark is trying to get together with Phil. ASHLAND TREE COMMISSION MINUTES SEPTEMBER 7, 1995 E. Big Street Tree List - The idea is to encourage trees that will be large upon maturity where circumstances permit. No update as David Jacquat is absent. F. Riparian Area Protection - John McClendon is considering what the Tree Commission can do to contribute. G. Trees for Siskiyou Boulevard - Donn Todt sends word that the trees have arrived. Mark will come up with a letter to gauge interest of abutting homeowners. V. New Business: A. Site Review - Commission concurred with the review comments written for P.A.'s 95-110,95-119,95-112. B. Oak Street Neighborhood Group Plan - Kathy Scott and Joan Blackburn presented a preliminary plan for Oak Street between Hersey and Nevada. The plan is to beautify and make safe this stretch by planting trees, perhaps adding median or bump-out planters and putting the sidewalk through. Ideas were discussed, Tree Commission offered its support. The group is planning to rework the plan and will bring it back then. C. Ashland's plantings in general - Nancy Kerr suggests that Ashland's plantings could be more park-like, perhaps along the line of Montecito, California. She will take pictures the next time she visits and will bring them in. VI. Meeting adjourned at approximately 9:00 p.m. 2
