B. Liquid Ambers in the Downtown Area - This was in response to
the controversy surrounding the cutting of a Liquid Amber in front
of Senior Gator's which make the front page of the Tidings (7 Feb
94). Donn Todt discussed the recent history of the downtown
trees and presented a slide show. He also discussed the
historical reasons for our existing tree replacement policy as
written in the Ashland Downtown Plan. The needs for street and
parking lot trees, especially for adequate root space, were
stressed. A subcommittee was formed and a meeting to discuss
requirements of downtown trees was scheduled for 7:00, March 8,
at Mark's house. In addition, the Tree Commission will ask Brian

Almquist to stop removing downtown trees until this subcommittee
can review the situation. (The tree in front of Senior Gator's is the
only one known to be affected at this time.)
c. Funding of Briscoe School Cypress project was discussed briefly.
We will have to be more careful of projects that could involve work
that might conceivably be done by the city.
