April 5 , Monday, 12:00 -- Ceremony & tree planting, Garfield Park 2. April 6, Tuesday, 3:30 -- Tree of the Year Award, Nutley Street 7:00-9:00 -- Slide Show at Pioneer Hall 3. April 10, Saturday, 10:00 -- Tree Walk with Don Todt, meet at Alice Peil Walkway 4. Susan will call newspapef to try and get a photographer to one of Pete's plantings this Saturday (Ashland Community Food Stofe planting for children. B. Susan relays Donn Todt's status of the city tree inventory: 85% done, imputing has started. C. Ordinance Subcommittee reported no progress this month. D. Letter regarding TCI Cable Co.: Brian Almquist wrote a letter to TCI Cable with a copy of NAA guidelines. The copy sent was Pete's. Pete should be feimbursed for his hosting of State Forestry Commission a few months ago. V. Old Business: A. PA 93-035 (Peerless Rooms) n Ron Thurner and Crissy Barnett were here to clarify some issues about their application. Alternative paving ASHLAND STREET TREE COMMISSION MINUTES APRIL 1, 1993 surfaces will probably not be allowed any longer due to the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Also, saving the tree would require a well. These two factors combine to make tree's long-term health outlook poor. Commission voted to remove its recommendation -- applicant's original landscape plan is approved. PA 93-052 (Wendy's) -- Minor suggestions were made; plan looks good overall. PA-053 (Van Ness Townhomes) -- Plan needs to be resubmitted in accordance with guidelines. What is existing? What are the species (eQ "Pine")? Generally unclear and plants not to scale at maturity. PA 93-056 (Park Street duplex) n Plan unclear, please resubmit in accordance with landscape guidelines. B. Tree of the Year Ballots 1. Glenwood Park Walnut - 9 votes - WINNER 2. Sycamore - 8 votes 3. Redwood at High School - 3 votes 4. Ginkgo at Library - 2 votes 5. White Oak - 3 votes 6. Osage Orange at Helman - 3 votes C. Site Review Process (Nancy absent) D. Midge Thierolf (Siskiyou Blvd. Design) n Took our input and discussed ideas for Siskiyou Blvd. resign. We used for a least some trees to be put in the median. E. "Forest Lands Commission" n To join, Pete is willing to quit Tree Commission if he has to. Susan may also apply as ex-officio. F. New projects -- we and Brian Almquist are interested in planting around the Elks Lodge. Mark will call Chas about approaching the Elks. Meeting adjourned at 10:15 p.m. 2
