A. David Mason was introduced. He is a long-time resident and contractor; he
was warmly received.
B. PA 93-035 John Seligan testified that the would like to save a walnut tree,
which would be destroyed by the parking area, for historic and neighborhood
reasons. Vivienne Freidman also noted the tree's beneficial effect on the area
and its importance to the neighborhood and the community. The Tree
Commission voted 5-0 (Cyphers & Sada not present) to recommend to the
Planning Commission that, 1) the requirement for four parking spaces be
changed to three spaces so that the tree can be saved, and 2) alternative
paving be used to allow water and air to get to the tree's roots and increase the
tree's long-term chances. The Commission was sympathetic to Vivienne's
appeal for a stop to automatic alley paving.
C. PA 93-025 Shirley Grega produced the landscape plan. The Commission
recommended that minimal change be made to existing grade and that booklet
"Building Around Trees" be obtained from Nancy Slocum and followed.
