John McClendon Susan Hunt (Chair) Mark Knox (Planning Dept.) II. Approval of Minutes - November minutes approved. III. Guests: IV. aId Business A. Street Tree Inventory Progress - Another glitch has been discovered. When Davie Tree Co. was working on our data they discovered that an area of the city (1-9 on inventory sheet) had not been entered. Mark Jenne has received the disks back and will look into how the area data can be entered. 8. Tree Line USA Training Status - Leslie has received information. Commission voted 5-0 to order the utility training video ($25 cost). C. Cypress at Briscoe School - Postponed, David Mason absent. D. Review of Recommended Street Tree List - Donn reports that he and Linda Ryan have discussed this and expect to have something for review in February. E. Water Conservation at sasc - The school budget is very tight. TID is looking at all. their water users; sasc will undoubtedly remain. The city is going to phase out water volume discounts, 'sO sasc may rely more on TID and may be more careful with water use. Susan will talk with Dennis Johnson, Ground Superintendent. F. Tree planting in the watershed - The Headwaters Watershed Enhancement group is interested in helping us. P~te Sed a apparently has a new source for a quantity of trees. Donn Tadt suggests that we may want to plant around the new water tank. Fuel lowering may be more useful to forest health. Mark will attend the next Forest Management meeting to ask for permission and for possible sites. G. City Contractors Using Spurs - Mike Biondi received our letter and is willing to try to rectify the spur-climbing problem with his subcontractors. H. Arbor Week Planning - John McClendon is coordinating. At this point he is getting all the dates set up and making the schedule. He will make sure utility flyer gets done. Donn Todt found that there is irrigation at the site near Briscoe School. Someone would need to contact the City (Brian Almquist) and ask for the required water meter. This spot is ideal'for Arbor Week purposes. Leslie will talk to Brian about this projects and its requirements. v. New Business: A. Site Review - 1. PA 93-140 (Shakespeare Festival Bathroom) - Prior to construction, trenching around the construction site is recommended to protect remaining trees. One or two trees should be planted next year. Tree Commission wants to re~ review. 2. PA 93-147 (Williamson Way - Mark Reitinger) - Leland Cypress gets big, it may be overdone where indicated on landscape plan. B. Subcommittee Meeting Time - To incorporate our comments into the staff report, we are moving our Subcommittee meeting to the week after the regular Tree Commission meeting. According to Mark Knox, this will allow our Subcommittee to review preliminary applications. VI. Meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m. 2
