G. Tree Planting in the Watershed - Mark talked to Pete Sada and will assist
with this. It will be similar to last year.
H. Arbor Week Planning -
I. John McClendon will coordinate the Tree-of-the-Year. He'll get with
Nancy to review last year's utility flyer, etc.
2. Tree planting activities should involve students. We brainstormed
possible locations. Donn will check out irrigation near Briscoe
School. All of us will look for possible sites, which should be at a
school or a very public location. .
3. Susan will ask riparian expert, Richard Hart, if he will give a short tour.
v. New Business:
A. Site Review -
1. PA 93-119 (233 Fourth Street/Tom Frantz) - Refer to Site
Review Comment Sheet. Commission felt the need for a parking
shade tree and to name the pear variety (maybe change to
Raywood Ash).
8. City Contractors using Spurs - There have been several complaints
about contractors who have done pruning work in the East Main
Cemetery and other places using spurs to climb the trees. Types
of trees that do not repair holes quickly, such as Oaks, can be
weakened by this method. Mark will get a pamphlet and advice
from Donn Todt, then send a letter to Mike Biondi about this
problem and pruning standards in general.
VI. Meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
