Meeting called to order at 7:05 p.m. Attenders: Leslie van Gelder David Cyphers Donn Todt Mark Jenne (Minutes) Doug Hormel Pete Sada David Chasmar (Acting Chair) Susan Hunt II. Approval of Minutes - December Minutes approved with one change III. Guest: Planner Bill Molnar IV. Business: A. Planning Actions 93-007,93-016,92-132 were discussed - recommendations were made. Bill noted that our review(s) are running late. We would like the Landscape Review Committee to meet on Thursdays at 2:00. B. & C. Attendance and opening for commissioner _ Rob has requested a one year leave of absence, which was turned down by the mayor. A new member will be appointed February 2. Susan Hunt was voted chairperson for six months (February - July '93). D. Street Tree Inventory Progress _ progress has been slow this month, but will pick back up in about two weeks. E. Arbor Week _ 1. Tree-of-the-Year ballots have been set up for city utility bill (see packet) . 2. Garfield Park tree planting - should get one of the nearby schools to participate. 3. We should find someone worthy of an award this year. Donn ASHLAND STREET TREE COMMISSION MINUTES JAN UARY 7, 1992 Todt recalls plantings at C Street and Lithia (some nice Ginkgos there). Leslie suggests xeriscaping at Walker School. We need to find a commercial beneficiary. 4. Leslie will interview Pete on urban forestry. 5. Pete will look at watershed planting earlier that Arbor Week (February 28 if possible). 6. Donn Todt will ask Linda Ryan to give her historic tree walk again this year. 7. Susan will talk to a nursery (Ray's?) for a free tree to give out during a drawing, perhaps as incentive to participate in tree planting. F. Tree Ordinance Subcommittee - existing ordinances were reviewed. We are about to contact Don Laws and Bill Molnar to refine - David Cyphers is typing a draft so we can do this. Next month we should have a package to vote on for submission to city council. G. Leslie had a preliminary logo that was reviewed and appreciated. Pete would like technical modifications to the root system. H. Susan talked to TCI Cable tree-trimmer manager, who offered to send his crews to any seminar on tree-trimming we come up with. I. Susan Hunt knows of a barren area (25' x 100') that is a possible tree planting site. J. Susan noted that Public Works has been careless with bulldozers. K. David Chasmar will discuss "Tree Line USA" program for the Electric Department tree-trimmers with Brian Almquist. L. TCI Cable Company trencher have damaged a lot of trees and landscaping. They are trimming trees probably without permit. Doug will call Brian Almquist and investigate. Area Damaged is around Hillview. M. Nancy will transfer $297.00 from the Street Tree Inventory grant to the Street Tree Commission account. VI. Meeting adjourned 2
