Present: Kayor Wiley, Counoilmen Applewhite, Gregg, Hansen, Wenner. and later Blake. Absent: Ingle. ยท The purpose of the meeting was to discuss changes in the water ordinanoe and the printing of the annual financial statement of the ~ity of Ashland for the year 1934. G. I. Green of the Daily Tidings and Leonard Hall of the Southern Oregon Miner were present and asked to address the council. Both respend- 84 with arguments in favor of their respective papers. After some disouss- ion, it was suggested by Hansen that the matter be taken up at the next regular meeting of the oounoil when a full membership would be present and further discussion was thereupon dropped. The City Attorney read a proposed ordinance amending the water ordinanoe and considerable discussion f'llowed, but BO## aotion taken, pending a more thorough stud7 into the probable effect of these ohanges on the water revenues and consumers rates. Wiley. Mayor February 19, 1935 No. '1 The oounoil met in regular session at 7:30 P. M. this date. Present: Mayor Wiley, Counoilmen Applewhite, Blake, Gregg, Hansen, Ingle. Wenner. Absent: none. The minutes of the preTious meetings were read and approved as read. Monthly reports of the Library, Light, Water, Reoorder and street Departments. and the annual reports of the Park and street Department were read, accepted and ordered placed on file. The hour of eight having arrived, hearing on the vacation prooeed- ings on the Ira Reeder property at 85 Seoond street was announced. There being no one present to protest these proceedings, the City AttorDey was instructed to prepare the ordinance for the vacation of this property. The time having arrived for opening the bids on thB tractors and equipment, bids from the following firms were read:Mlller Traotor and Equipment Co., Brewer Traotor ahd Equipment Co., and the Howard-Cooper Corporation. Following the reading of the bids. it was moved by Blake that the bids be referred to the street and Light Committees far report baok to the oounoil. Seoonded and carried. Seconded by Gregg. Roll call was ordered, the vote being Ayes 6, Nays O. Carried. These plans were prepared by Wm Laing and Mr. Laing was called upon todiscussthem which he did, going into considerable detail. The matter was tabled however without any action contemplated for the immediate future. . A. Hamman, 8 Beaoh Av!nue addressed the council, stating that his water had been turned off and that he was unable to pay for same. Follow- ing some disoussion it wal moved by Blake that the matter be referred to the Water Commi ttee wi th power to act. Seconded by H8D..seno Car-riel. Mr. ehas A. White of Bellview addressed the oouncil requesting that a certain extension in the pipe line be made when the Boulevard pipe line was p_t in. Moved by Wenner and seoonded by Hansen that the matter be referred to the Water Committee to report back. Carried. Bills from Applewhite for gas & oil ete for $23.30 and the Hardy Hardware for plumbing by Jerry O'Neal for $53.85 were presented. Motions made by Wenner and Applewhite respeotfully on these bills for their pay- ment were seconded and oarried. The application of Mrs..M. Patterson, 43 Churoh street for tree lights and water was presented. Moved by Gregg and seconded by Hansen that her name be restored to the free list. Carried. Bills presented by the Park Commissio~ for approximately $200 were presented by Mr. Biegel. These expenses being on account of SERA proJeots which the Park had not budgeted for. Moved by Wenner that these bills be paid from the Emergenoy account of the General Fund. Seoonded by Gregg. Carried. -. Biegel stated that G. Yokel, II' C street owing for 9 months water $22.50 inoluding penalties was w111i~ to settle for $18.00 and that a. V. Roberts, 1132 Oak Street owing '21.00 was willing to settle for $15.00, or a rebate of $6.00 on 1933 water on account of being away. He recommended that these reduction be made. Moved by Wenner that the re- oommendations be followed. Seoonded by Blake. C&'ried. Moved by Hansen that the City Atjorney investigate the taxes on city property which had been listed for sale by the Sheriff. Seconded and carr- ied. H~sen also suggested the adv1saallity of listing city owned pro- perties for sale by advertising. Moved by Hansen, seoonded by Applewhite that permission to place the pheasant pens at the air port be sranted. Carried. Moved by Applewhi te tha t the City Superintendent go ahead wi th the remodelling of the City Hall. Seconded and carried. Koved by Wenner that the oouncil approved the aotion of the Mayor and .eoorder in making an agreement ooncerning the oollection of dog taxes effeotive Fe.15th. Seoonded by Blake. Carried. The Mayor stated that a HighwaX Meeting was being held at Portland. Moved by Applewhite that the Mayor ~nd City Attorney attend this meeting on Feb. 28th. Seoonded and cart.id. Coggins addressed the council on purchasing more timber aandfrom ~he City. Moved by Applewhite that the matter be referred ~o the Water Comm~tt- ee to investigate and retort.
