HomeMy WebLinkAbout1935-0416 REG MIN April 16, 1935 No.12 The counoil met in regular session at 7:30 P. M. this date. Present: Mayor Wiley, Councilmen Blake, Gregg. Hansen, Ingle. Wenner. Absent: Councilman Applewhite. Minutes of the previous meetings were read and approved as read. Monthly reports for the Library. Light, Water. Street and City Recorder were read, accepted and ordered placed on tile. A letter from the Standard 011 Company relative to their pro- posed super-servioe station. aocompanied by plans and specifioations was the next order of business. After some discussion. it was moved by Ingle and seconded by' Blake that the city grant the Standard Oil Co. of California the right to erect a modern service station at the corner of East Main and First streets, providing said Standard Oil Company meet all requirements of city orlinances as to buildings and the installation of gasoline tanks. ' Fuller spoke on housing plans, suggesting that the City assist. He pointed out one "or two places which would be very good locations. Moved by Ingle that the matter be referred to the Realty Comlnittee and report back. Seconded by Blake. Carried. Applications for the following building permits were read: No.2. To remodel house at 108 Alida st. by J. A. Ruger at an approximate cost of $300.00 No.3. To remodel house at 1149 Boulevard by Charles I. Holmes at an approximaje cost of ~200.00 No.4. To remodel house at Iowa and Mountain Ave. by C. o. Pres- nall at an approximate oost of $200.00 No.5. To ereot super-service station at First and E. Man Sts. by Standard 011 Co., at an approximate cost of $lO.OOO.(Granted above) --1IOVed by Wenner, seconded by Blake that the permits be granted. Carried. A petition for vacating a portion of Orange Aven~e was read. Moved by Hansen, seoonded by Gregg that vacaDion prooeedings be instituted if two-thirds ot the property owners desired and would pay expense of the proceedings. A report from C. P. Talent concerning the Dump Ground bill was read. Moved by Wenner that the bill be approved. Seconded by Blake. Carried. The motion further prOVided that the Police Dep't submit a report ooncerning oremations and that oosts be assessed against the Police Dep't. Committee Repprts: Light: Blake reported that bids for an induction regulator being the same. the Light Dep't would purchase same from the General Electrio. Moved by Blake that the City purchase $45.00 in advertising for the Tidings Cooking Sohool and grant the use of the oouncil ohambers tor the purpose. Seconded by Wenner. Carried. ' Upon the suggestion of the City Sup';. it was moved by Wenner that the City Sup't install a sink in the oouncil ohambers for use ot cooking sohools and charge same to advertising, Light Dep't. Seoonded by Blake. Carried. The City Attorney read a proposed ordinanoe ooncerning the licensing of pin and ball machines. There was some discussion, but mo action taken. The City Attorney read a proposed ordinanoe on changes in the light 'I' r April 16, 1935 No. 12 and water deposits. Moved by~Blake that the rules be suspended and the ordinance be passed to the second reading by title only_ Seconded by Wenner. Carried. After reading the second time, it was moved by Wenner that the ordinance be adopted. Roll call was ordered, the vote being Ayes 0, Nays O. Carried. Thereupon, the Mayor declared City Ordinance No. 943 adopted. The City Attornej# read a proposed ordinance ooncerning the com- pensa.'ion for City Judge. Moved by Wenner and seconded by Blake that the ordinance be passed to the second reading. Carriedo The City Attorney rea4 a proposed ordinance on criminal s~dicalismo No aetion was taken, it being suggested that the matter be def#Brred until the next meeting when those sponeering the ordinance couid be present to support it. Moved by Wenner and seconded by Ingle that the bill of tre ~ity Judge previously held up, be ~id. Carried. The City Attornej requested permission to purchase a building If if oode book for $2.50.
