HomeMy WebLinkAbout1936-0421 REG MIN April 21, 1936 No. 9 The council met in regular session at 7:30 P. M. this date. Present: Mayor Wiley, Councilmen Gregg, Hansen, Ingle, Koozer, Swedenburg. Absent: Councilman Blake. The following monthly reports were read, accepted and ordered placed on file: Fire, Electric, street, Water and Recorder. The Park report was read and placed on file. The following bills were presented for payment: For Clean-up Day labor and trucks, $93.90; street Dep't labor $19014; Cutting wood $70.68. Total $183.72. Motion was made and seconded that the bills be allowed and roll call was ordered, the vote being; Ayes, Gregg, Hansen, Ingle, Koozer, Swedenburg. Nays: None. Application for building permi tNNo. 5 was presented for the remodelling of a dwell- ing at 168 Meade Street at an approxirl1ate cost of $200.00 by L. P. 'Wilmeth. Moved by Koozer and seconded by Hansen that the permit be granted subject to compliance with building regulations. Carried. A letter from the Oregon Pacific Highway Association to Mayor Wiley was read con- cerning the improvement of the ~acific Highway from Cottage Grove south and asking for $25.00 as Ashland's share for the printing of a folder. Moved by Koozer and seconded by Hansen that the City pay the $25.00 to the Oregon Pacific Highway Ass'n. Carried. The question of the appointment of a City Judge was discussed informally but no action taken. K. V. Hill, engineer for Greeley & Hansen was present and disc~ssed the Sewage Disposal Plant constru.ction to date. Committee Reports: of street: Koozer reported on the status of the Peil Bridge and right-Iways in rear of the stores on North Main adjacent thereto. Koozer further stated that the Street Comndttee had decided to fix the street crossing near the Dr. Shaw residence on North Pioneer and the oiling of one block on "C" street from Pioneer to 1st Street was considered and siscussed. Seconded by Ingle. Carried. Realty: HaDsen reported on the condition of the skjlights on the Mission bUilding, and the question of insurance on the building was discussed. It was moved by Swedenburg and seconded by Hansen that the Mission Bldg. be insurad for J500000. Carried. The garbage removal contract was brought up and the City Attorney and City Sup't were instructed to look into the matter and report back. The City Attorney brought up the question of a building code and upon motion by Ingle, seconded by Hansen, the Mayor was asked to appoint a committee to consider the feasibility and advisability of having a building code. Carried. Special Committee Reports: Irrigation Water:Koozer reported further on the work of the oommittee and the agreement which had been prepared was read and considered and discussed. Koozer requested use of the council chambers for the Fourth of July committee ~etings which was granted. Hansen stated that the V. F. W. wanted to use the Pioneer Hall for a meeting place, stating that the Radio Club was going tOI~ive it up. Considerable discussion followed relative to rents and chaDges for lights, but no definite action was taken. On motion, the council adjourned to meet at the call of the Mayor. Attest: (Signed) J. Q.
