HomeMy WebLinkAbout1936-0505 REG MIN May 5, 1936 No. 10 The council met in regular session at 7:30 P. M. this date. Present: Mayor Wiley, Councilmen Blake, Gregg, Hansen, Ingle, Koozer, Swedenburg. Absent: None. Monthly reports for the Dump Ground, City Judge and Fire Deptt were read, accepted and ordered placed on file. Bills amounting to $34,019.68 were read as to total amount only, same having been oked by the Conmittee Heads and Finance Committee. Motion was mad.. and seconded that the bills be allowed and warrants drawn. Carried. Application for building per.mit No. 6 was presented as follows: No.6. To erect and remodel dwelling at 400 Liberty Street at an approximate cost of $400.00 by Mrs. Lulu Van Wegeno Moved by Koozer and seconded by Hansen that the permit be granted subject to bUilding regulations. Carriedo A letter from the Oregon state Board of Forestry concerning fire patrols was read but no action was deemed necessary. A letter from Ferris and Hardgrove, Bond dealers, was read concerning the sale of Ashland Water and AuXlillery Water Bonds. Upon motion by Ingle, seconded by Swedenburg, the question of an audit was referred to the Finance Committee. Councilman Hansen was exceused and left the council rooms. Committee Reports: Finance. Federal money for the Sewage Disposal Plant not having been received, it was necess- ary to transfer from the Electric Fund in order to meet a payment of the contractor. Moved by Ingle and seconded by Swedenburg that the transfer of $12850000 as recommended by Blake, Chairman, Finance Committee be approved. Carried.. Moved by Blake and seconded by Swedenburg that since there was a surplus of over $500.00 in the Cemetery Trust Fund, that $500.00 be invested in Government bonds to be selected by the City Treasurer. Carried. Street: The City Attorney reported that Mrs. Heath on Terrace Street had complained about the clouds of dust arising on the road near the rese~oir which were talling into it. Discussion followedo Water: The question of free water to Mrs. Ellen Pate on Roea Street was brought up for discussion resulting in a motion by Koozer seconded by Ingle that instead of granting fBee water that payments on delinquent water be suspended during the slimmer months, cur- rent bills being paid as usual. Koozer reported that Frank Davis, Sup't St~eet Dep't wanted to have two months leave of absence with the priviledge of two weeks additional if necessary and made the motion which was seconded and carried. Realty: Ingle stated that the roof of the Mission Building needed patching. No actioI was taken. The rental of the Pioneer Hall to the Veteran's of Foreign Wars was discussed but action was deferred until such a time until both the Radio Club and VFW could be in- terviewed as to their plans. SJ.>ecial Committee: The City Attorney made his report on Dump Ground contract and Ray Spencer Sup't was present and also spoke on it. Upon motion by Swedenburg, seconded by Koozer the matter was referred to the City Sup't and City Att'y for a concrete report. Carried. The Mayor announced that he desired to appoint C. O. Presnall, City Judge. After a.iscussion, it was moved by Koozer and seconded by Gregg that the appointment be confirm- ed. . Roll call was ordered, the vote being, Ayes, Blake, Gregg, Ingle, Koozer, SwedenburE Carried. The oiling ordimmee was read by the City Attorney. Moved by Blake and seconded by Koozer that the rules be suspended and the ordinance be passed. to the second reading by title only. Carried. Follow1~g the second reading, it was moved by Koozer and seconded by Swedenburg that the ordinance be adopted as read. Roll call was ordered, the vote being: Ayes: Blake, Gregg, Ingle, Koozer, Swedenburg. Thereupon the Mayor declared City OrdinanCE No. 959 adopted.
