The council met in regular session at 7 :30 P.H. this date.
Present: Mayo~ Wiley, Councilmen Blake, Gregg, Ingle, Koozer.
Absent: CO~lc~lmen Hansen{ar~ived later), Swedenburg.
The m1llutes of the prev~ous meetings were read and approved
as read.
The monthly reports of ~le Dump Grollild, Library and City JUdge
for the month of June were read, accepted and ordered placed on file.
A letter from C. P. Talent, Chief of Police concerning half year
licenses on pin ball machines ~~s read and referred to the City Attorn-
ey.
Mr. and LIrs. Frank Dickey were present and the },1a.yor asked Mr.
Diokey to address the council. 1~. Dickey discussed a water drainage
problem near his residence and the matter was referred to the street

Miss Lasher, Sup't of the Community Hospital was present and
addressed the oOWlcil on the subject of insurance at the hospital.
which she had promised to take out. She mamtioned several changes
whioh would be necessary in the hospital in order to get the insuranoe
necessary. Upon motion by Ingle, seconded by Gregg, a oomrnattee con-
sisting of the City Attorney, City Superintendent, Miss Losher and
Fred Engle of Engle & Thomas Agenoy to investigate the needed add-
itions to t~e hospital in orde..r to meet the inft~~n%~~requirements.
Miss Losher further stated thit she would like ~6/c~ty use its elect-
rio lawn mower on the hospital lawn for which she would be willing to
pay $5000 per month. It was found out that the mower belonged to the
Park board and the city had no jurisdiction.
Mr. Ralph Billings was present and addressed the oounoil on the
damages dome to his land by Dunn & Baker when construoting the sewer
line to the Sewage Disposal Plant. Upon motion bjGregg, seoonded by
Blake, the matter was referred to the City Attorney and City Sup'to
Bills amounting to $11,399.86 having been oked by Department
Heads ana the Finance Committee were presented for payment in tot~l.
Moved by Blake and seoonded by Koozer that the bills be allowed. Roll
oall was ordered, the vote being, Ayes, Blake, Gregg, Ingle, Koozer.
Nays: None.
The City Attorney read a proposed ordinance for amending the
Pin Ball Maohine ordinance so as to permit half year licenseso Fol-
lowing the first reading, it was moved by Koozer that the rules be
suspended and the ordinance be passed to the seoond reading by title
only. Seoonded by Blake. Carried. After the second reading by title,
it was moved by Blake that the ordinance be adopted as read. Seoonded
by Koozer. Roll call was ordered on tts adoption, the vote being Ayes;
Blake, Gregg, Ingle, Koozer. Nays: None. Thereupon, ~e Mayor deolared
Cmty Ordinanoe No. 961 adopted.
The following building permit applications were presented:
No. 10. To remodel house at 606 Oak street at an a~proximate cost
of $175.00 by W. P. Bellus.
Woo 11. To remodel house at 361 Mountain Avenue at an approximate
cost ot $400.00 by V. E. Rush.
No. 12. To remodel refrigerator room at 186 Wightman street at an
approximate cost of $100000 by E. B. Poyer.

No. 13. To remodel house at 384 Helman Street at an approximate
oost of $200.00 by Mrs. J. W. Q,uintell.
No. l4. To remodel house and build new wood shed at 835 North
Main Street at an approximate cost of $260.00 by Dewey Van Curler.

Water: Biege brought up a pro~osed WPA proJeot for the Water
Department and following some discussion, it was moved by Koozer
and seoonded by Gregg tliat the proJect be set up.
Counoilman Hansen came in at this time and took his p~aoe.
Biegel also stated that it was neoessary for the City to pur-
ohase a ohlorinator tor the Sewage Disposal Plant and upon motion by
Ingle. seconded by Koozer. the City Sup't was authorized to get bi4s
on chlorinators. Carried.
It was brought up that Chas. Martin living on Helman Street wante~
a sewer and offered to do the work if the city would furnish the sewer
pipe. Upon motion by Blake, seconded by Hansen, the creatinn of a new
sewer dis,trict and the advertising for bids for it construction was
authorized.
The subject of a fenoe for the sewage disposal plant was brought
up and discussed, but no definite action aaken.
Mra. Kissinger of the Lithia Auto Camp addressed the council on
installing shower baths in two of the oabins. She stated that they
had lost many customers on account of the laok of more modern acaomod-
ations in their oabins. Mrs. Kissinger stated Ihat she merely wanted
to explain the ma tter to the counoil, ~ending the decision of the Park
Board.
Reilty: Hansen reported that the Fowlers Who were ~urchasing the
housecon East Main Street were giving it up.
SteCial Committee:
A r Port. Koozer state that he had a chance to rent the air port
to some stunt flyers on Sunday and upon motion by Ingl~ seconded by
Hansen. the proposal was approved. The matter of theG!alent contract
was brought up and referred to the City Attorney.
H. L. Clayoomb addressed the oouncil, having just arrived. He
stated that he haa secured $7.50 for rent of the air port and turned
the money over to the City Recorder.
Mr. Claycomb spoke on the feeding of the pheasants at the Air Port
which had been done by Mrs. Osoar Talent. He stated that ahe should be
paid for it and said that she would do it for $15.00. Following some
discussion on the Oscar Talent contract for rent of the air port, it
was moved by Koozer and seconded by Gregg that Mr. Claycomb be author-
ized to to pay Mrs. Talent $15.00 for feeding the pheasants. Carried.
Mr. Claycomb spoke on the oonstruction of tennis oourts in the ~~
par~ and urged that it be done.
Hansen stated that a committee repre~enting the State Capital
would be in Ashland soon to investigate t~use of Ashland granite for
its construotion and asked for whatever assistance in furnishing cars,
ete as might be necessary to serve the oommittee.
On motion, the aoincil adjourned to meet at the oall of the Mayoro
