The C"ouncil met in regular session at 7 :30 P. M. this date. Present;
Mayor Wiley, Councilmen Blake, Gregg, Hansen, Swedenburg. Absent; Council-
men Ingle, Koozer.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read.
Monthly reports of the Library, Park, Eleotric, street, Water Depart-
ments and City Recorder were read, accepted and ordered placed on file.
Bills from L. H. Hansen for travel expenses to Eugene to attend League
of Oregon Cities Convention, $5.25 and I. C. Erwin for fire and theft
insurance on fleet ofcar~, i19.94 were upon motions by Gregg, seconded by
Swedenburg and Hansen respectively ordered paid.
Fleet insurance on 13 cars for public liability and property .damage
which expired on AUb~st 16th was taken up and bids received from the in-
surance agencies were as follows:

Following considerable discussion during which S. S. Davies who was
present discussed insurance matters and possible sa~ings by the City and
who offered to submit a bid on the fleet insurance, the matter was settled
by granting the insurance to the lowest bidder upon motion by Hansen,
seconded by Swedenburg. Roll call was ordered, the vote being, Ayes; Blake,
Gregg, Hansen, Swedenburg. Carried.
Committee Reports:
Adjustments on light and water accounts on account of overcharges, etc
were brought up by Biegel totaling $14.90. It was moved by Hansen and
seconded by Gregg that the adjustments be allowed. Carried.
Electric: A change in commercial electric rates resulting in a slight
reduction was brought up by Biegel and upon motion by Blake, seoonded by
Gregg was referred to the Electric Committee for investigation and report.
Realt~: Hansen reported that the oontemplated s~le of the East Main
Street property was off.
Special Committee: :Noise. The report of the special committee on
noise near the Lithia Springs Hotel was read together with petitions pro-
testing the proposal to designate a truck route thru the City. It was
moved by Swedenburg that the report be accepted and placed on file and the
committee discharged. Seconded by Hansen. Carried.
Lioense Committee: No report.
Realt~: A bani :fide offer from a party to purchase Lots 57, 58, and 59
ot' Highlan Park Addition to the City of Ashland having been reoeived from
the County Court, and there being delinquent assessments against this
property due the City of Ashland totaling nearly the amount offered, the
matter was referred to the Realty Committee for investigation and report
as to the advisability of letting the property go or having the City pur-
~ftei-Qhase it for the amount offered.
A proposed ordinance amending Ordinance No. 957 and providing for hal~
ear licenses on card tables was read by the City Attorney. Moved by
Blake that the rules be suspended and the ordinanoe be passed to the second
reading by title only. Seconded by Swedenburg. Carried. Following the
second reading, it was moved by Hansen and. seconded by Blake that the
ordinance be adopted as read. Roll call VIas ordered with the vote, Ayes;
Blake, Gregg, Hansen, Swedenburg. Nays; None. Thereupon the Mayor declared
City Ordinance No. 963 adopted.
On motion. the Council adjourned to meet at the call of the Mayor.
