!he oouncil met in regular sessionnat 7:30 P. M. this date.
Present: Kayor Wiley, Councilmen Applewhite, Hansen, Ingle, Sweden-
burg.' Absent: Counoilmen Blake, Koozer.
Jl1nutes o't the previous meeting were read and approved as read.
!he monthly report o:t the Park Commission was raid and ordered
tiled and the reports of the Library, Electric, street, Water Depart-
menta and City Reo6rder were read, aocepted and ordered placed on file.
A letter from Will W. Wood, 255 Paoi:fie ferrace, !Clam th Falls.
Oregon relative to leasing the hospital was read and a letter from
lIiss Ardath Losher ata ting tha t she was gi T1ng up the hospital on July
1st was read and discussed. It was mOTed by Hansen and seconded by
Applewhite that the Hospital Committee confer with Miss Lasher relative
to the leasing of the hospital. Carrie4. .
Mr. V. O. N. Smith representing a group ot business men spoke on
the :fire oraoker ordinanoe requesting tha t the period 'tor the sale ot
tire-works be extended 80 that the merohants could have a fair opport-
uni ty to get rid ot their stooke Fred Tayler, H. H. Elhart, If. L. 0 'Harra,
and Mr. L. D. Westfall o:t the Variety Stor~ also spoke ta~oring the ext-
ension. Following more disoussion as to what the period should be, it
was ~I#f## decided to extend the period making it trom June 25th to
July 5th inclusive and City Attorney Frank Van Dyke prepared a new ord-
inance ohanging the daje. as suggested and read the proposed ordinanoe.
It was moved by Applewhi te that the new ordinan.oe be adopted as rea d,
and :tollowing a second was voted upon, the vote being, Ayes: Applewhi te t
Hansen, Ingle, Swedenburg. Nays: None. Thereupon the Mayor deolared the
new ordinanoe No. 9'11 adopted.
Committee Reports:
E~eotrio: Swedenburg eta ted tha t he and the Mayor and others were
up the canyon 1M interview F. E. Russill and had arrived at oertain
tentative arrangements with him mereby an additional man oould be em-
ployed at the power plant without any additiona1 expense and probably
a little reduotion in the present operating ....,.
Water Applewhite stated that the Water Department needed a new car
whiah had been budgeted for. He stated that the old oar was now 8 years
old an4 expensive to operate and requested authority to oall for bids
with power to aot. It was moved by Swedenburg that the Water Committee
be authorized to get bids on a new oar with power to act. Seoonded by
Hansen. Roll oall was ordered on the motion, the vote being, Ayes: Ap)le-
white. Hansen, Ingle. Swedehburg. Nat's: None. Carried.
street: The City Attorney reported that a law suit was being oon-
templa ted by Mrs. Wallaoe against the City of Ashland due to inJuries
reoeived from a fall last year 4UB to a defective sidewalk.
Applewhite disoussed the oiling of Oak street trom Nevada street
to the Railroad traoks, stating that the county was going to 011 the
portion below Nevada street.

been suggested and discussion followed. !he need :tor band music prompted
the motion by Swedenburg that $12 .00 be authorized tor musio. seconded by
HB.1lIl8en. Carried.
