The council met in regular session at 7 :30 r. E. this d.ate.
Present: Ma~tor diley, Councilmen ApI>lewhi te, Blake, Hansen, Koozer.
Absent: Councilmen Ingle, ~{edenburg{deceased}
Minutes ?f the :previous meeting were read and. approved as read.
The montIlly l'egort of the Dump Ground for July was read, accept-
ed and ordered placed on file.
Bills amounting to ~10209.64 were read as tOLltotal amount only,
same having been oked by the various departments and Finance Committee
and upon motion by Blake, seconded by Koozer and following a unanimous
roll call were ordered paid.
The following application for a building permit wasxpresented:
No. 20 to build a new house and garage at the corner of Laurel and
Van Ness Avenue at an approximateacost of $3000.00 by O. A. McCoy.
It was moved by Koozer and seconded by Applewhite that the application
be approved. Carried.
A letter from the Pacific Coast Associat~on of Fire Chief+s geft-
~al9.tign was re~drequesting that a representative from this city be
sent to attend", tl~ meeting August II-14th. The matter was disoussed
but it was thought inadvisible tomsend the Chief on acoount of the exp-
ense involved and the small likelihood of much of the meeting being
devoted to matters affeoting small cities like Ashland.
Committee Reports:
Hospital: Biegel re~orted that there was no provision for hot
water at the Hospital during the summer months and stated that a water
heater would cost from $50.00 to $55000 and was needed. Upon motion by
Hansen, seconded by Blake the experldi ture of not to-exceed ~55.00 for a
water heater for the Hospital was authorized.
Free List: Applewhite recoIDrrlended the following be placed on the
free list:
C. A. Brown, lights and water.
I. H. Scott, lights and water.
~Y. T. Jlheat, water.
Upon motion by Applewhite, seconded. by Koozer, the above persons
were placed on the free list to Dec. 31, 1937. Carried.
Real t:y: The Ci ty Attorney reported that the 11 lots on East lvlain
street which the County had claimed as their property were now the pro-
perty of the City of Ashlando
The Oi t;r Attorney also stat ed that Miss Robards, 300 Ashland street
was claiming damages to her property due to a break in the flume in the
amount of $300.00. He stated that he and the City Suptt had interviewed
her and she had agreed to approve settlemant by replacing of the damage
without any money being involved and read a proposed agreemBflt covering
same. On motion by Koozer, seconded by Hansen, the agreement was approv-
edo Carried.
The City attorney also stated that he and the City Sup't had aontact-
Mr. I. J. Sawyer and he had signed the agreement which had been prepared,
concerning payment of irrigation charges. The signature of Mrs. s..yer
having been seoured by Mr. Roy Harland, he reoommended that Mr. Harland
be paid $1.00 for his services in acknowledging the signature atvSalem.
Upon motion by Hansen, seoonded by AppleWhite the payment was approved.
The City Reoorder suggested the naming of the Community Hospital
after Dr. F. G. Swedenburg, former member of the council who had recent-
ly passed away in Sweden.
On motion the aounoil,adJourned to meet at the call of the Mayor.
