The Council met in regular session at 7:30 P. M. this date. Present: Mayor Wiley,
Councilmen Applewhite, Carson, Crandall, Delsman, Tayler. Absent: Councilman Koozer.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read.
The monthly report of the City Judge was read, accepted and ordered placed on fileo
Monthly bills amounting to $14,269.02 were read asxto total amount only, same
having been oked by the various departments, co~ttees and finanoe committee ani upon
motion made and duly seconded and following a unanimous roll call were 'ordered jaid.
Henry Enders spoke concerning uniforms for the band, asking that the unexpended
portion of this years budget be used for uniforms. Disoussion\ifollowed and upon motion
the natter was reft6'rred to the City Attorney for an opinion. arried.
The following applications for building perIni ts were presented:
No. 39: To repair dwelling and garage at 156~3rd Street at an approximate cost of
$250.00 by Joe Plzak.
No. 40: Toremodel dwelling at 263 Mountain Avenue at an approximate cost of
t150.QO by, J. 11. Gillespy. , ' . ." , ,
t!t was' moved by Tayler and seconded by Carson that the permits be granted. Carried.
Alfred W. Mundt, C. P. A. of Grants Pass who had just completed the audit report
on the City of Asl}.land for t he year 1938 made a very interesting report on the audit
and outlined his recomnendations and discussion followed.
Committee Reports: ~: Delsnan reported thatthe fire, signal system had been
installed and was satisfactory.
Water: Biegel reported that bids oalled for water pipe now would sa.. money and
payment could be made next year if necessary. It was moved by Tayler and seconded by
Applewhite that the Ci~ Superintendent be instructed to prepare specifications and
call for bids on pipe. Carried.
Street:Applewhi t.e reported that he did not feel that Mr. English who had mde
a protest at the last meeting had any claim.
Free List. The ~es of Kirkpatrick and Spaulding having been recommended b~
the eommi ttee for free lights and water , it was moved by Ca:r;~oJll and seconded by ayler
that they be granted free service until Deaember 31, 1939. C~rried.
, In accordance with t he recommendations of the audito1f, it Wls moved by Tayler
and seconded by Applewhite that the City Superintendent have the gas tank moved to the
warehouse, and the oil taiIk moved to the place ocoupied by gasoline tank. Carried.
It was moved by Tayler and seoonded by Carson that the City Superintendent be
instructed to carry out the provisions of using Mr. Bartelt as a swing an in the
Recorder's offioe as reco~lended by tl~ auditor in order that he could familiarize
himself with the duties of both the Reoorder and Ass'stant Record.1KjH~tt~HUN#I#I~

It was moved by Tayler and seconded by Applewhite that in all future reports,
that all finanoial reports should should be prepared by the City Recorder and all
departmental reports should be in the nature of operating reports only. Carrie d.
